Bie Sukrit on the Book of Apaiyatarn (the Book of Forgiving) project
Bie: people often have disagreement, whether it’s within ourselves, with people around us or with family members… the disagreement may become a national level… I once read a book that was written by monk Piya Sophon. He is a monk at the temple Pharam Kao. The book is called “Forgiveness”.
It was a very good book. The book said “of all the bad things that happen in our life, nothing can be worst than the problems we create ourselves”.
We lost something when we give something away… for example: we give someone money, we lost that money… we give someone our t-shirt, we no longer have a t-shirt… but if we decided to forgive someone we wouldn’t loose anything… we even feel good inside our heart in return for that act of forgiving…
“nothing can be worst than the problems we create ourselves”
What I plan to do is – build on Buddhist teaching, the Act of Forgiving… I will do more research on the subject from other books and publications, gather all the important information, compile them together and put them into a booklet. The booklet will be published and will be distributed to educational institutes, temples or governmental offices, or to anyone who is interested in finding out about the Act of Forgiving.
An example of the Act of Forgiving –
Opal: yes, Bie
Bie: you stole food from my house
Opal: you knew about this?
Bie: yes… it hurts me so much and it made me very angry
Opal: it was only food…
Bie: I was so angry that I wanted to strike back at you… why did she come and steal food from my house? Every time, I saw you on TV or heard someone talked about you… I felt so angry and wanted to get my revenge. The anger, the hurt, etc… were created by ourselves…
When I allowed myself to forgive p’Opal… I no longer wanted to avenge my lost… from then on, every time someone talked to me about p’Opal… I would see that p’Opal is dark, chunky and cute…
Opal: in that case, it’s better for me to continue to steal your food…
Bie: that was just a simple example
Phu Phan Bird: Bie, if I were Opal and could get inside your house, I would not steal only your food… I would steal you!
Moderator: Bie… to sum it up… you are going to gather and compile all information related to the Act of Forgiving, put them into a booklet, publish the booklet and distribute them to people…
and that’s my book!
Bie said he is happy to be a part of this project, to be able to do something good and to be able to give back to society … The book is a collaboration between Bie and Sudsapda…
