Khu Kam (Ill Fated-Love)… review, feedback…

Since I just completed English subtitle of Khu Kam (Ill-Fated Love)… I thought I’d ask every one for a review…

  1. How do you like Khu Kam Bie and Noona version?
  2. what do you like or dislike about?
  3. what did you learn from Khu Kam?…
  4. Which part or scene do you like the most?
  5. What do you think of Bie and Noona?

I think we could all learn from Ang’s mistake… she was right.  Life is too short… Happiness is out there within our reach… we need grab it!  cherish every moment with your love ones because we don’t know what’s going to happen the next day..

NOTE:  Khu Kam is the hardest sub project for me so far… because of WWII era, older style languages and culture… had to deal with two different cultures, Thai and Japanese… the story involved the war, military and political situation. I had to do research and read about them… had to understand what went on during the era in order to translate and use the right words for the subtitle.  Over all, it was a great experience and quite a challenge but it was a great-great sub project and lakorn to work on.  I enjoyed it a lot… hope, you enjoyed it, too.

Kobori was always there with Angsumalin... just like he said... he would never go away...

Kobori was always there with Angsumalin…

just like he said… he would be never far away from Ang…

Character of  Kobori, a Japanese Naval Officer is being changed from a serious and unyielding man to Bie Sukrit style… any one who saw Bie (as Kobori) has to smile … Bie has already been given a name “Kobobie”

Boy smile… feedback from KhuKam is a lot stronger than expected…

Khu Kam Bie/ Noona version is being talked about a lot.  At the same time, it is also being compared to other versions…

Boy Takonkiet Viravan: “feedback is very good. At the begin, many people were still attached to the older versions… They would ask why Kobori and Angsumalin this version is so lovey dovey…
I have to tell you that… it has been our intention all a long. This is the angle that we want to convey to the audiences. The story itself is already quite dramatic. If we start off cute and lovable, when it gets to the peak of the story, it would be quite a suspense.I also believe it would get to people’s heart.

To me, Bie and Noona have great chemistry together. They are a leading pair that commands our attention. I would say they have no problem being the next favorite leading pair because of Khu Kam.I told everyone before that Khu Kam is a story about two people. One cannot do better than the other… both of them have to be good together.  Today, khun Tomayanti (the author of Khu Kam) came to visit the set. She said “Yes! Khu Kam has to be like this!“. I was quite please.

Your version is being compared to the movie version…

khun Boy: “It’s ok. I am not afraid of being compared. Each production has its own interpretation of the story. They are different. We feel that our version can stand gracefully on its own. The audiences like it. The author of the book also likes it. The production team is giving all they have. What else do we want”.

Bie and Noona’s chemistry… will you push them to become the “favorite lead pair”?
khun Boy: “very big possibility.  Both of their stage musical and lakorn meet with success”.

2. When Exact announced that Bie Sukrit Wisetkaew and Noona Nuengthida will star as Kobori and Angsumalie in Khu Kam, I was elated. Since then, I have been counting the days that lead up to the airing of Khu Kam. When it finally aired, it took my breath away and I found myself speechless. I was mesmerized and immediately fell in love with Kobori. Sad to say that I have not viewed the previous versions of Khu Kam, but I have to report that I don’t need to, as I am 100 % content with this version.

Bie has really out shine a Kobori. He brings the character to life, with emotions and feelings that draw the attention of the audience, making one feel as though his character is alive. He shows compassion, intelligence, and proficiency with both the Japanese and Thai languages. Bie is able to bring the audience to feel the same emotions and feelings he endures in the Lakorn. I cry when he cries, I laugh when he laughs… I am not only a fan of Bie, but also a fan of Khu Kam.

3. I really, really love watching Khu Kam. It is a very touching lakorn, along with great actors who portrayed each role very well. Thank you for remaking this lakorn. I hope the lakorn will not end so soon. I would like to see more sweet scenes between khun Kobori and khun Ang. They have very good chemistry. Also, I hope to see Khu Kam part 2 with the story of khun Kobori and khun Ang’s son.
-Fan from USA

4. Bie could you please tell the director to please not end this soon, I hope it could go up to at least 20-25 episodes. I hope you win the 9entertain award. Love you, from one of your international fans.

6. I super love Koo Kum 2013, love this cute, adorable, and funny Kobori. Bie is an awesome actor, he can express his feelings from his eyes, and also an awesome singer too. It would be great if they change the ending, I don’t want to see Bie pass away. I’m so obsessed with this lakorn and love Kobori from version 2013 super much and more than the old version even though I’ve never watch any of the Koo Kum version except this 2013 version.

10.  Can you please tell Khun Boy to put Bie and Noona in more lakorns together? they are such a cute couple. Also don’t rush the lakorn, they should give us more episodes like 7-9 more episodes (or even more). Bie as Kobori is super-duper awesome, he can express Kobori’s feeling super well and all the scenes in the lakorn is all awesome.
Nancy (USA)

11.  Love Bie as Kobori and love Khu Kum 2013 a lot! Best version ever! Serena

We feel happy to see Kobori and Hideko together, but at the same time, feel hurt as we know those sweet moments may not last long. Your acting is good; it says it all without any words. Keep it up! Wish you be successful. Rak Na ka (love you)!

17.  Fan from Italy
Yes! I fell in love with this lakorn because of the dialogues, so intense and meaningful.

18.  Bie’s performance was flawless and it was made even more perfect with Noona Neungthida as his leading lady. Noona is the perfect Angsumaline. She is a natural beauty and is an amazing actress. She can look so sweet, but with one glare, you can see the fire in her eyes that makes her portrayal of Ang come to life. Bie and Noona’s chemistry together is electrifying. Please-please pair these two wonderful actors together again in another romantic drama. May I suggest a remake of the classic Exact lakorn “Roy Leah Sanae Rai”. They would be excellent in these roles.

In closing thank you for Exact’s wonderful production of “Khu Kam”. This is my favorite version. Everything about this lakorn is perfect form the talented cast, to the wonderful and detailed interpretation of the storyline, to the beautiful lakorn OSTs.

Ariya (a lakorn fan from the USA)

19. What I love Khu Kam, Bie and Noona’s version…

  1.  I love Kobori’s character.  This Kobori is so full of life.  He laughs, smiles and cries freely…. He is kind, generous and compassionate.  He is loyal, thoughtful and optimistic.  He is intelligent, very realistic and he tries to grab happiness in whatever forms, no matter how big or small.
  2. Bie made me believe that he is Kobori came out of the novel… that Kobori is alive and well.
  3. What I love about this version of Khu Kam is… it’s more fun and enjoyable to watch.  Bie and Noona pull me into the story with them.  It feels like I am a part of their life rather than being an audience watching a TV program.  We easily laugh, smile, sad or cry with them, especially with Kobori.  Bie has such expressive eyes and face.  We can feel his emotions.  I cry when he cries.  It feels so sad seeing them having marital problems… This version of Khu Kam is very touching and very charming. This is a touchable version of Khu Kam (like we are a part of their life) while the other versions were untouchable (we are just the audience).  I think this the charm of this version of Khu Kam.
  4. The story moves along at a good pace… makes it more interesting to watch… that we don’t want to miss a single minute of it.
  5. Words are deep and meaningful, especially Kobori’s dialogue.  It shows that the screen writer, the directors are very thoughtful and put a lot of work into the production… 2 thumbs up!!! A wonderful production and we hope to see more.
  6. Clear messages:
  • The horrible of war.  There’s no real winner in a war.
  • Don’t take things for granted.  Life is too short.  Cherish every moment you have with your love ones because you don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow.
  • Give happiness a chance.
  • Don’t be too quick to judge/prejudice/open your mind
  • Trust
  • Communication
  • Conditional love (Angsumalin’s love) vs. unconditional love (Kobori’s love)

Hope to see more of Bie and Noona in another classic lakorn but with a happy ending 🙂 …. Malie BIFC

EXTRA:  Could this be where Kobori’s name came from?

As I was getting ready to subtitle Khu Kam into English, I had to do research on the carp story that Kobori talked about a lot in Khu Kam.

Satomi (Bie’s big Japanese fan) told me about koinobori , carp streamer.  The streamers are made from paper or fabric.  On May 5 of each year, landscapes across Japan are decorated with koinobori from April to early May, in honor of sons and in the hope that they will grow up healthy and strong.

Koinobori “carp streamer” that Kpbori talked about in Khu Kam…

What’s interesting is the word KOINOBORI.  If we removed “OIN” from Koinobori… we would be left with the word KOBORI.  We taught wow!… did we just discover a secret?

Is it possible that the name KOBORI came from the word KOINOBORI?

i like this version of khukam because they emphasized all the aspect that a lakorn should have..from those little part to the biggest part..they portrait every character very well..i like the most how they touch people heart by portrait how love is strong than anything else even of now i dont have any dislike in any part..i learn from khukam that is everything is possible when people is in waits and love is patience..tell everyone u love them before its too late..and love is not about nationality or religion its about how u express it..i like the most is when he tell i love you in japanese while she’s lying and when they talking about their child pet..

I agree with about different characters in this version. Some of them only had a small part, but they played important role for the story.

Takeda – they portrayed him as Kobori’s best friend which I don’t think the other version did. I really appreciate that and it made a lot of sense for Kobori to have a close or trusted friend in the Navy. I like Takeda’s character a lot.

I even like Dr’ Yoshi who was more of Kobori’s adviser and confidant.

The most important point why I like about this version is the wordings… they were beautifully written and very touching. Just hope I didn’t do too bad on my translation. I was very careful with my translation. Wanted each word to come out beautiful like it was written.

I like bie and noona in this version of khukam because they had chemistry..they portrait their character very well..i think its hard for noona to be stubborn like hideko because i know noona has a bubbly personality, she always smile and laugh..eventhough some people said that bie dont look like japanese still for me he is the best kobori..sweet and caring..that kobori should be so that angsumalin will love him forever..i watched the other version..still this one i love the most..555

agree with you about Kobori’s character. I am very happy that they portrayed Kobori this way. Like you said Kobori being so sweet and caring, and fun loving… we don’t need to ask why Hideko could never love anybody else. She longed to be with him throughout her life.

don’t know if you saw part 2 – Ang never married Vanut. Vanut never married, either. He was there for Ang. Wonder if he felt responsible for Kobori’s death. Kobori’s son grew up to be a professor. Very head strong… fighted with his mother all the time. It was more of a resentment because Ang kept talking about Kobori and compared Kobori to him all the time. Ang had a very tough life after Kobori died.

I didn’t see the movie (but read a little about it),

    1. How do you like Khu Kam Bie and Noona version?
    – I have no preference other than I love everything about it. 555 I love BieNa’s chemistry, their phenomenal acting such as their crying scenes, the music, etc. It was great and different compared to the older/new versions. I love the way it was directed. The lakorn started off really nice, cute, calm, and funny. I agree with Boy that it was already dramatic enough, so I am glad that they approached the lakorn in a different way. It really was a good approach since I fell mad in love with the lakorn right from the start because of how easy going it was at first! lol

    2. what do you like or dislike about?
    – Since I have already mentioned what I liked about the lakorn in the first question, I would also like to add that I really like the fact that we got a lot of cute, loving scenes of BieNa. All though it was short-lasting, it was worth it. 🙂 There’s not much that I disliked about this lakorn other than the fact that I didn’t like seeing the other cast members more than the pra’nangs. I wish we saw less of the two guys whose name I have forgotten. lol

    3. what did you learn from Khu Kam?
    – What did I learn? I learned that you should not take what you have for granted because you will regret what you have when you lose it. Nothing or nobody stays for long so make sure you cherish what you have. Also, don’t let your pride, or mind, overrule your heart. Go with what your heart says!

    4. Which part or scene do you like the most?
    – I don’t really have a specific favorite scene since I really liked all the scenes of BieNa; they all made me cry, laugh, squeal, etc. 🙂 It doesn’t matter which scene it is – from the first meeting to their first kiss to their wedding to their deal and romantic moments to the ending. All of their scenes together were likable.

    5. What do you think of Bie and Noona?
    – I think they are a match made in Heaven. They have amazing chemistry both on and offscreen. Their awesome friendship is makes you envious. 555 I love how comfortable they are with each other, and they never fail to make me laugh.

same with me… Bie and Noona seem to be very comfortable with each other and they support and appreciate each other.

The best part is Noona seems to understand Bie’s joke(s) more than others 😀 don’t know about understand but at least she laughed at his joke(s) 😀

Thanks Malie l love Khukam i like the scene when they first time see each other always to the ending this the first Khukam that i watched i never watch the other versions of Khukam before because of the ending but i desire to watch this one because of Bie and I’m glad i did I love Bie and Noona as Kobori and Angsumalin they both are so adorable with strong chemistry thanks Malie i enjoy every bits of it hopefully Bie and Noona have another lakorn together.

I am glad you gave it a try. From khun Boy’s interview… he said there is a big possibility. He didn’t want to keep putting them together too much that people might get bored seeing them together too often.

Bie schedule probably will not give him 4-5 months to film lakorn. Sounded like Bie will be traveling back and forth b/t Thailand and NY a lot more this year.

    January 8, 2014

I loved this Khukam because Bie and Noona were great actors/actresses and showed a lot of true emotions that in some lakorns don’t have. In the end so sad nearly cried every time Kobori and Ang said something sad 🙂
    One last thing…
THANK YOU MALIE!!!! You did a super-duper job!!! I appreciate everything you do and hope if in the future Bie has more lakorns please sub for them 🙂 🙂

another thing that I like about this version is the ending – I am glad they added epi 24 part 4 to this lakorn. It makes the story full and complete. It’s a closure. It doesn’t leave us hanging or waiting to find out what will happen next.

Also happy that they didn’t show us Kobori’s funeral… I don’t think I would be able to watch it.

i already read some part of KHUKAM 2 and i must say still its all about kobori in hideko heart and his son..although angsumalin life is hard after kobori die still he keeps her promise to kobori that she will not love anyone except kobori..their son was a copy of kobori..i want to see their son yoichi..maybe look like bie when he was a baby..cause i already saw bie baby cute and chubby..

i mean she still keep her promise to kobori until she died in heart disease..maybe it still painful for angsumalin kobori passed away..because she died in a heart disease..

    January 9, 2014

I love everything about this version of KhuKum…no other words of which I can think of to use….just love everything about it. I saw the movie by Nadech, its nice but this version by Bie/Noona is still the BEST!!
My favourite scene would be how Kobori held Angsumalin to sleep (E18 p3) and how they woke up together, in each other’s arm…so sweet!!
I learned that love can be very beautiful, sweet and strong, love conquers all. But love can also be the most painful thing around…if not well taken care of. So let’s treasure every moment we have, with all our love ones!
Thanks Malie for the excellent translation, without your English translation, I would not be able to enjoy this lakorn…to its full protential. 😉

      January 25, 2014

I agree with you. This is also my most favourite scene. Just like Kobori is the only one that Ang can rely on ,trust in, and feel peaceful with so that she can sleep soundly in his arms through the bombs… I love this couple so much, their acting really touches my heart. And also thank you very much, Malie, for your effort on translation. I really hope for the next lakorn of Bie Na….

Thank you very much for your patience to sub the whole lakorn, as well as your Japanese translater. I really thank you, because I was so into this lakorn, I completed it without all the subs, and I am glad that the dialouges made it a lot smoother.
I can’t compare it to any other version, because for me it’s the only I saw.

    About your other questions:

    1. How do you like Khu Kam Bie and Noona version?
I liked it a lot and it gave me another point of view in history, about the Japanese in WW2. I somehow felt like, when I was watching “Gone with the Wind” for the very first time, so the author is kind of a Thai Margret Mitchel for me. 😉

    2. what do you like or dislike about?
What I liked was OST with one exeption the scene where the drunken Kobori takes advantage of his wife, I still think at that stage, the music was too romantic, others might have liked it, I didn’t.

    3. what did you learn from Khu Kam?…
I learned that in my (I am German) and in the Japanese nation, that people with “high” ideals not always follow a good “road”. And that it is hard to judge one person only for their nationality. And that it is hard equally hard for one person be courages and stand firm. I am always hoping that humankind will one day be “wiser”, but watching news, people fight and die endless it seems.

    4. Which part or scene do you like the most?
When each of them was making music for the other, or while thinking of the other. There was this certain kind of longing in the air, sigh.

    5. What do you think of Bie and Noona?
I think they are really talented

Time is precious share it with the people you love, while doing what you love
    Take care^^

I have been a Khu Kam fan since it first aired out. I have seen all of the versions with each different actor/actress portraying Kobori and Ang. I watched the one with Bird and Num as Kobori and they each brought out a different perspective of Kobori, even the actresses playing alongside them brought out a different Ang. When I first learned that Khu Kam was yet being remade with Bie and Noona, I thought, “Ok, yeah, probably won’t watch it.” One, because I wasn’t familiar with Bie and Noona. My own thoughts of “what if” led me to find your channel and I watched it. Right when Bie entered and they had their first “meeting,” I just fell in love. I couldn’t stop! Bie brings out such an adorable, loving, and passionate Kobori that I found myself just begging for him to be “real.” This version has one of the best “first kiss and confession” scene. In the other versions, I felt like that scene was rushed, where Kobori first admits that he loves her. They fall into the ditch and he confesses, then kisses her, the end. In this one, oh-ho!, finally! It was a scene that made me go “Yes!” I LOVE that scene! I love how the single tear makes the whole scene completely filled with an emotion that tugs at your heart and soul and the soft kiss he gives her is just OH MY GOD! This is one of my favorites! I love the ending because it is true to his words of never leaving her. He fulfills his promise and I love that part. Yes, I hated Ang for all the torture she put him through and I just wanted to pound it through her stubborn head, but without that, there wouldn’t be a drama like this. Thank you so much for subbing! You did an awesome job and I have truly enjoyed it! I hope to see more from you! ~Houa

thank you for sharing your thought. At the beginning when rumor started flying that Exact was planing to remake Khu Kam and Bie would be Kobori…. Some of us said “oh no…please noooo” we knew that Kobori died at the end and it would be very sad. We didn’t want to see it.

But now, we love it. It is a very touching and meaningful love story. Many times, I wanted to shake Ang 😀 because of Ang’s character, it makes us love Kobori even more… Glad you enjoyed it!

Khu Kam 2013 has really come a long way in this version of the films/lakorns. At first, I thought (just from watching some of the trailers for this version), they would change some of the details and how the story goes too far and it wouldn’t be as good. After finally watching this version, it was very enjoyable and parts with Kobori and Ang showing more of their affection and care for one another seemed more expressed in this version. The only other version I’ve watched was with Num and Benz (2004). Overall, I love that version the best because the storyline made more sense, the events collaborated VERY well, and the acting was just spot on. With Bie and Noona, I loved them at actors and actresses, but their acting wasn’t up to par as I would have expected but I loved their performance anyway. It was very entertaining and I loved the chemistry they had compared to Num and Benz’s version. Ang (Noona) wasn’t as against or evil towards Kobori (Bie) in the 2013 one. She seemed more mellow compared to Benz who portrayed a very strong willed person and makes her hatred towards Kobori (Num) very believable and most of the time, despised. I also loved the theme song that both Bie and Noona sang together for this drama. It was more lovely in lyrics than the other previous Khu Kam dramas. Overall, I loved this version of Khu Kam just the same. ^-^ Very touching story and a sad ending. Thank you so much for uploading, subbing, and sharing your thoughts on this drama. We appreciate your hard work and we all can’t thank you enough. Thank you!!!! You’re the best. ^_^

I love how Khu Kam changed my thoughts about Thai Lakorn… I’ve already watched tons of them and I can’t help to skip every unnecessary part of those but this Khu Kam lakorn got me and watch every bit of it.. I just love how Bie being Kobori – a man of honor vows to live up his beliefs and a man who dares to cross the boundary of love for Angsumalin.. His Hideko…. I hate Angsumalin for being stubborn but fall in love with her as she struggles to fight her feelings towards Kobori… So sad that their love ends so fast but I hope for the possibilities of continuation of it to Khu Kam 2… I want to purchase a book of Khu Kam but unfortunately, it wasn’t translated to English.. But anyways, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to you Malie for sharing such wonderful TV series… God Bless and wishing you best of luck..

you’re welcome and thanks for the message. Khu Kam 2 was made into a movie many years ago. I didn’t see it but read a short synopsis of KK2.

Many people said the story line in KK2 focused too much on internal and political conflicts in Thailand during that time. They said it was not as good as KK1.

Kobori had a son who was so stubborn like his mom. Ang kept on repeating to her son how wonderful his father was and often compared him to his father. Kobori’ son (forgot his name) despised his father and had fights with Ang all the time because Ang wanted him to be like his father.

When Ang died at old age, Kobori came to pick her up and took her to the milky way with him.

I don’t know how much I could thank you, malie. You have done a great job. This Lakorn really brings me to tear. Even it is a sad ending one, I enjoyed every moment of it. I’ve watched this around 5 times already and I always cry my eyes out all the time. It’s so great that I will always remember this.
A big applause to Koo Kum team. Bie, Noona, writers, directors and many others that make this Lakorn come to life. This is the best love story that I’ve ever watched. It’s so touching. I believe everything can end up with happier result but because of misunderstanding, prejudice and stubbornness; it’s brought tears and regret to everyone.
Ang might thought that she is clever and always reasonable in her own way but she is the most foolish one. Why she has to fight again her heart over an uncertain love? As much as I understand, her promise with vanut isn’t really a love one. He just asked her to wait for 5 years and give her answer to him. If she still like him the most, they will be together. At that time, I don’t think Ang loved him. She just did it because she was not sure if it’s love and he is her only best childhood friend. Ang took this promise too serious and ended up losing the most precious thing in her life. Ang just didn’t give any chances for Kobori, she just closed her heart tightly and kept telling herself that she had to wait for vanut. Kobiri is Japanese but what? Ang was being unreasonable all the time that she kept hate Kobori. She is too stupid that she doesn’t know how precious Kobori is and how future can turn to be.
Kobori, the perfect man with beautiful smile that I will never forget. He might exist only in Koo Kum only. He is just too great for Ang. His love for Ang is sth that no one can have. His care and forgiveness to Ang who always disappointed him, make him to be the ideal and dream husband to me. He was always being patient and keep his heart and love for Ang only. This is sth that I can’t do anything but admire him. It was so sad that he had to die at the end. He longed for Ang’s love for long. He deserves much more happiness.
My friend and I watched this Lakorn. She told me I should watch their happy moment only coz it’s way too sad. But what?? I can’t find a their happy moment. Most of the times, Ang is being mean to Kobori and treats him very bad. There’s only 1-2 ep only that they’re happy and smile to each other. I just can’t get enough of them and satisfy with the ending. Anyways, what’s else I can do? This Lakorn has to end like this. I just hope I can see Ang and Kobori are able to live together happily for a very long long time.
I wish to see more Lakorns from Noona and Bie. They portray their characters well and have great chemistry. If they’re real life couple, it will be great. Let’s see how it wl turn out. I ship both of them so hard and even forget that this’s just a Lakorn sometimes. I hope in the next Lakorn I can see a happy ending and Noona will be bullied by Bie coz in this, Bie has done so many things for her yet she treated him so bad.
I’ve learnt a lot from this. We shouldn’t be stubborn and neglect the future. We don’t know what will happen tmr. That’s why we should enjoy every moment of our lives and live it well. Don’t be against our heart, we might regret it in one day like Ang who doesn’t has anything but regret. (anyways, I don’t have s.o who loves me like Kobori loves Ang. I’m waiting for you, my Kobori)
Thanks you so much, Malie. I hope you keep doing this work. As an international fan, these English subs are the best for me. Love you and hope to see ur next project. I don’t know your real name, ur age, ur nationality but I just got a special feeling ab you. Good luck, malie.
I will remember Koo Kum, you, Bie and Noona. ❤
